Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission announces draft amendment to its RPO Regulation, 2010
Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission recently announced a draft amendment to its (Renewable Energy Purchase Obligations) 2010. The comments & suggestions are expected to be submitted by 21 November 2019. The principal regulations were announced in 2010 with amendments in 2011, 2013, and 2016.
The latest draft amendment is in coordination with the order by the Ministry of New Renewable Energy (MNRE) dated June 2018. The order has notified a long-term trajectory of Renewable Energy purchase Obligations (RPO) for Solar and Non-Solar for consideration of State Electricity Regulatory Commissions to notify RPO in their respective States. In consideration of the order of the Ministry of Power and in aiding the acceleration of growth of clean energy sources, TNERC announced its RPO growth trajectory for the financial years 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 under the RPO Regulations. The RPO target notified will be applicable to all obligated entities i.e. Distribution Licensee, Open Access Consumers, and Captive Consumers.
The Renewable Purchase Obligation for the financial year 2011- 12 in sub-regulation (1) will be applicable for the years 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 to the Distribution Licensee.
